We are a typical American "mom and pop" business trying our best to earn a living by selling cigars, pipes, and pipe tobacco. A luxury product, steeped in centuries of tradition. The mystique of cigars and pipe tobacco started as a result of Christopher Columbus' 1492 expedition to the Americas. Smoking quickly became an after dinner luxury for the affluent. Over time, the “gentleman’s tradition” of cigar and pipe smoking for relaxation, enjoyment and camaraderie has spread nearly worldwide..
At the risk of sounding like a zealot, I'll reveal my heartfelt "rant". Hopefully, you can recognize "the ring of truth" in my words: We encourage everyone to take note of current political trends to oppress our rights and freedoms, or to give unfair advantage to "big business", or to allow corruptive lobbying to continue to influence "the people's" representatives. Fight for your liberties. Maintain your rights. Don't be deceived by popularist trends that are setting prescedent for telling "the people" how to live or what to do -or not do, based upon "interpretations of the common good" versus the rights of people over government. If we give away our freedoms, we become slaves!.
In today's environment, we are under attack from many sources, elitists that believe they can outlaw products and behaviors they do not like (placing their rights above yours), from anti-smoking organizations, anti-sugar, anti-fat, anti-coffee and more -using mis-information and bandwagon appeals citing children, clean air, and health issues; to big online firms -owned by large manufacturers that are lining politicians pockets to keep a loop-hole for internet sales of "cigars" -when other sales of tobacco (cigarettes, snuff, etc.) have been prohibitied -and their deliberate undercutting of brick and mortar stores by unfair pricing to eliminate their middlemen to the consumer; and let's not overlook oppressive taxation from local, state and federal governments. It all piles up. But... I'm hopeful and grateful for the support of many thousands of "the people" who recognize what's going on and are supporting the defense of ALL OF OUR RIGHTS, FREEDOMS AND LIBERTIES.
If you think about it... the current situation begins to resemble the climate of greed by the elite, corruption in all levels of government, and oppressive taxation and legislative burdens placed upon "the people" just prior to "THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION". Are we approaching the point forseen by our constitutional founders... it is time to rise up and refresh the "tree of liberty"... do we need to TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK, rid our government of the corruptive influences, and reestablish liberty, fairness and justice for "the people" as the focus of government???
In truth, I'm optimistic and believe "the people" will prevail. But to do so, we must be willing to take actions to defend our rights, freedoms and liberties. ARE YOU? DO YOU VOTE? WILL YOU GO TO TOWN MEETINGS, VOICE YOUR OPINION TO YOUR POLITICIANS, AND LET THEM KNOW RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE ARE BEFORE THE RIGHTS OF GOVERNMENT, LIBERTY BEFORE RESTRICTIONS, or protections from ourselves... we have the right to choose... don't lose yours!
